Hi all!

Last week I completely forgot to post my Friday wallpaper. My apologies. Being that it was Christmas Eve, I was distracted with my children’s toys and things to do. Today is New Year’s Eve and I have a Friday wallpaper very fittingly called Happy New Year! To all of you who check this blog often, read my posts and have become friends, to my loyal nieces, and the now officially boyfriend, and to my dear family, have a VERY, VERY, happy 2011!! Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is about, well today. We woke up to new snow on the ground, it was sunny, and it was cold. Oh well! Winter has indeed arrived! Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper inspiration came from the game Sequence. Every Friday night is game night at our house. We all write down the game we want to play and one of us draws from a hat. As you probably guessed, we played Sequence tonight. While playing I kept looking at how colorful the chips were and how shiny. I guess it stuck in my head because when I came to sketch my wallpaper that was all I could think about. Granted this is not identical to the chips, I made my own version. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Black Friday. The day we go out and forget our thankfulness and spend it all. The day of endless crowds. The day we are completely manipulated by the market and buy things supposedly marked down without considering that if they are marked down so low is because the cost of them is probably even less. I am no saint. I like a sale much like the next person. But I refuse to shop on Black Friday. I refuse the insane crowds and I refuse to stand in lines when I can be sleeping in. Anyhow, here is my visual of what a Black Friday looks like to me in a store. And of course, enjoy!

Hi all!

Today my Friday wallpaper has to do with a question regarding the end of times. Yes, you read that right. The end of times. I had a conversation today where my position regardign the topic was questioned. I was a bit taken aback because I had been familiar with the institution in another context and I had not known this to be an issue. When I left, I remembered Matthew 24:36-37 which states the following:

But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. [37] For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

My position is that no one knows for sure. Thus, I did what I know, I designed my position. Enjoy! The photo is from stock.xchng.

Hi all!

And here is today’s wallpaper. A quote from Pablo Picasso that I found today at Quotes.net (I also found August Renoir’s quote there). Enjoy!

Hi all!

Last Friday I did not post my usual wallpaper. So, today I am posting the one due last Friday and later on, I will post the one for today. Today I found this quote by August Renoir and found it very interesting:

I’ve been 40 years discovering that the queen of all colors was black.

Enjoy!

Hi all!

I am at SECAC this weekend and along with chairing a panel and giving a presentation, I have of course attended others. Today I listened to a presentation about the visual language, symbology, and story telling of comic books. One presenter, Dr. Ben Harvey used the words “figurative scramble” during his talk. I found them to be very intriguing and sketched a face of a woman with its parts rearranged trying to create a figurative scramble. I took a photo of my very rough sketch, put it in the computer and decided to use it for my Friday wallpaper. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is about my phone losing power the other day on the train. I had connected it to recharge at the college where I work but for some reason, it didn’t. Needless to say, I was afraid I could not play with my favorite game app while riding the train. As usual enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is about letters in several typefaces: Bodoni, Legacy Serif, Garamond Premier Pro, Futura, and I am sure I might have something else there too, but cannot remember. As usual, enjoy!

Hi all!

My apologies for not posting my weekly wallpaper last Friday. Busy day and it caught up with me. However, today I am posting my Friday wallpaper and it kind of follows my previous wallpaper’s theme about design. See for yourself. Enjoy!

Hi all!

For a moment today I thought I would not be able to post my Friday wallpaper. We spent the day visiting the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and well, I had no time to design anything or sit down in front of my computer. However, my trusted iPhone was a great help today. With its new zoom features I can take nice close-ups of things I liked. And that is what I did! There was this exhibit called Chicks I think that featured, well you can imagine, chicks! Some of them were just coming out of the egg! It was awesome! So I snapped some photos and I liked one in particular of this little chick who seemed to have a tad of attitude, looking away from the rest. So, here is my Friday wallpaper titled Chic, get it? Enjoy!

Hi all!

Continuing with the theme of whether or not these wallpapers are wallpapers that I started out last week, I came up with this one. Trying to think of what to do, I thought, well I can just spell out what the file is made of and what it is. Feeling burned out after a summer semester makes for feeling uncreative. So here it goes. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is for my niece Adriana. While we were walking around yesterday we saw a man walking around with two nipple rings. One of my nieces noticed while the other didn’t. So, we started talking about how important was for an artist and/or designer to observe the things around him/her. My soon to go to college niece, Margarita said something to the fact that scientists observe. I replied by telling Adriana that scientists observe test tubes while designers observe the world. To illustrate I pointed out several textures that were around us such as the fence, the sidewalk, and the rocks in our path. I shot this photo because of it and today I thought I could make it the Friday wallpaper. A disclaimer though: I am married to a scientist. It is not intended to undermine or diminish the work of scientists. It is intended to encourage my nieces to become designers like me :-).  Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is about the lowercase f in Helvetica Neue Regular. I have been playing around with the alphabet going letter by letter for my daily designs and decided to do the wallpaper continuing with that theme. Enjoy!

Today’s wallpaper is a fun exploration of textures, color, overlapping, and type. Decide to take my brain for a walk in Illustrator and try some filters and effects. Enjoy!

Hi all!

My apologies for not posting yesterday! I spent the day grading projects, reports, and others. But here it is today! Today’s wallpaper was inspired by playing tennis. We went yesterday to play tennis —which I am not good at, but I love— and it was great! So I decided to make a wallpaper about tennis. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is a photo I took last Sunday while at the park. We were just walking around and I saw the lake and wished we had taken our canoe to get in the lake. It was very hot though. So it was probably good that we didn’t. In any case, being that I love the water and rowing, I thought of this picture and the word Enjoy. So, here for you, Enjoy!

Last Friday I missed posting my Friday Wallpaper. My apologies to all of you out there. Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is based on the last three designs I did for the #daily365 challenge. Two designs were based on two songs: Don’t Stop believing by Journey and Free falling by Tom Petty and the other one was a graphic wallpaper pattern with dots and lines. So I combined them to create this! Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is based on this tutorial that I have been doing for a few days. Long and very detailed. I still did not get all the detail like the tutorial’s. I like carnival masks. There is something both creepy and attractive about them. I did a carnival mask back in 1993 for a design class. It was by hand, using acrylics, magazine clips and there was a lot meaning in that piece. Unfortunately I don’t have it anymore. One of those few cases, I failed to keep a copy or a photo of my work. In any case, the mask is today’s wallpaper. I learned quite a few things doing this tutorial. Though it almost crashes my computer along the way :-). Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today’s wallpaper is about Martha Graham. Considered by many one of the pioneers of Modern Dance, she injected dance with soul, thought, and emotion. Her dances were almost a product of an intellectual curiosity about how the body communicates and expresses thoughts and ideas. For more about Martha Graham, please visit Dance Help. The image is not Martha’s due to copyright. However, as with my previous daily design, I found an image that I thought communicated the thought of this quote. Her leg’s muscle definition is the result of intense practice and performing. Such precision only comes when one is close to perfection and in her own words, “one becomes an athlete of God.” Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today I am taking the indirect approach to the famous women theme I am designing for this month. While thinking about female famous villains, I came across the character played by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda Priestly. I love this movie, it is one of my favorite movies. Meryl Streep is amazing in it. An image of her came across in the search here, and almost immediately this thought popped in my head “charm is deceitful” from Proverbs 31. I thought I would do the wallpaper on that instead of directly focusing on the character of Miranda Priestly. I experimented earlier this week with the lens flare tool in Illustrator and I admit, I am a fan of it now! Enjoy!

My wallpaper today is about Wonder Woman. I used to watch her shows. I loved them! Anyhow, for March I am doing my daily designs on famous women.
So, I thought I would dedicate my Friday wallpaper to Wonder Woman. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Spanish poet Federico García Lorca born in 1898, the year Spain gave her colonies to the United States, wrote this poem Romance Sonámbulo (Sleepwalking Ballad) that talks about this woman whom he wants to find waiting, longing for his return. It is one of my favorites poems and it reminds me that love is not only red, but green and full of hope.
